November's Stockist in the Spotlight: Calluna

November's Stockist in the Spotlight: Calluna

Our November Stockist in the Spotlight is Calluna, a charming independent shop tucked away at the eastern tip of the Black Isle, in the historic village of Cromarty. Owner, Phoebe Fox, first opened the shop in the summer of 2018 with the intension of offering a warm environment for women to discover clothing suitable for a Highland lifestyle. The boutique also has a strong focus on sustainable fashion and accessories.

We caught up with Phoebe to find out more about Independent shopping in Cromarty.

Describe Calluna in 3 words?
Welcoming. Unexpected. Sanctuary.

What’s special about your location?
Cromarty is a historic fishing town with beautiful coastal views, walks and exceptional independent shops. Throughout the winding streets you will find a variety of shops including Scandinavian homeware, antiques, Cromarty pottery, Dutch cheese and local artwork.

What's the run-up to Christmas like for you and the team?
Exciting! Every day is like Christmas when our deliveries arrive!

2021 highlight:
Opening on April 26th following the third l
ockdown and finally welcoming our customers back!

Favourite My Doris pieces you stock?
My personal favourites are the oval cocktails rings and our customers are loving the enamel earrings.

Share a customer compliment that makes you smile:
Can you open a Calluna in…

Best (and worst) thing about being a shop owner:
The best thing is sourcing new stock that customers fall in love with and the worst thing, ...I haven’t found anything yet! I ran a restaurant for 12 years and I find retail an absolute pleasure.

Any wisdom for our likeminded family of stockists?
Trust your gut. Stick with suppliers that have a like-minded philosophy on what’s important to you. We source suppliers that have an ethical and sustainable focus and who look after their suppliers and team. Enjoy what you do
